Therapists prescribe movies to help their patients explore and discover about self and psyche! Yes, you heard me right…. Movies! If you enjoy watching movies, try this unique approach to enhance your ongoing therapeutic experience! Films reflect life - through theme, plot, and characters have a powerful effect on us. They make us laugh and cry. They entertain us, and sometimes inspire us. Movie Therapy can be a helpful tool - when used in combination with more traditional counseling techniques; to explore emotional issues and life problems; to stimulate new insights and ways of feeling; to improve communication; to find meaning, and to expand your imagination. Movies, like art, books, and music, are becoming one more tool to help those in therapy achieve their goals and overcome their hurdles. Next time that you watch a movie that you consider meaningfu, try to answer these questions: · What part of the movie touched you the most? · What character/s do you most identify with, and why? · What do you like, or dislike about this/these character/s? · What were your emotion/s as you watched a specific scene? · How do you relate to the movie? · How would you change the ending if at all?
You’ll be amazed how much you could learn about yourself! So, get the popcorn ready and enjoy your movie even more:) | |
